The Concept

photo

"Hillbilly Games On Ice" is the brainchild of Jennifer Bradley, who grew up skating at the Ice Chalet, performed as a show skater for many years, and returned to the rink as an instructor after touring. With significant experience in corporate management and sales, Jennifer realized that a skating rink is a unique and fun environment for corporate team-building. Our East Tennessee heritage provided perfect inspiration for the theme.

The Ice Chalet

Generations of Knoxvillians have fond memories of the Ice Chalet as their after-school playground, a place to learn skating and hockey, and a Friday night social center. The Ice Chalet was built in 1962 -- It was one of the first two skating rinks in the South with regularly scheduled hours for public skating. Robert Unger, a professional touring pro with Holiday On Ice, decided to make Knoxville his home and opened the Robert Unger School of Ice Skating at the Ice Chalet in 1963. Larry LaBorde, who began helping out at the Ice Chalet at age 11 in 1967, eventually became (and still is) the Owner and General Manager.

Organizer

Jennifer Bradley has many years of experience in corporate managment and team-building, having spent years with Regas Restaurants and Clayton Homes, as well as the business she and her husband Stephen established -- PC of Mind Technologies. They have a beautiful daughter, Addison, who is learning to skate and perform with pizzazz, just like her Mother!
