Mary Lu Shipstad has over 15 years of professional show skating experience, including performances as a principal soloist for Disney on Ice and serving as show director. She also appeared in other ice shows, including one called “Perhaps Love” produced by Charles Schultz in Santa Rosa, California, and the “ICE” show produced at Radio City Music Hall in New York City alongside stars Robin Cousins, Toller Cranston, and Peggy Fleming. She also taught lessons at several rinks around the country before joining the Ice Chalet staff in 1992.

Mary Lu began skating at age 3 and competed for 8 years from ages 8 to 18. She is a USFS Gold Medalist in Figures and Freestyle as well as Pre-Silver in Ice Dancing. She also had ten (10) years of ballet training at Colorado College. Her past coaches include the renowned Christine Krall and Carlo Fassi.

Mary Lu is an ISI Gold-level judge and Synchro-certified judge. She is also certified as a skating instructor in both the Core (Tots through Delta) and the Intermediate (Freestyle 1-5) levels in the Ice Skating Institute's Instructor Training Program. When she's not at the rink, she stays busy with her two children, Jimmy and Brandon.
